Convert, customize and optimize in the blink of an eye any Genesis 3 Figure for great Iray renders with this all in one smart converter and skin management tools.

Efficient, organized, simple, easy to use!

Everything was conceived to achieve great skin renders and make your workflow more simple, more fluent and more comfortable. Simply select Genesis 3 and open the converter which applies new optimized Iray settings for the type of skin you're working on. The conversion script opens a window allowing you to choose between settings for Caucasian or African skin types, as well as translucency and skin tone options, and will offer you three presets, depending on the way you want to handle the gloss. An automatic detection of Daz Studio version will adapt the settings to take into account the recent scattering update of the Iray render engine when necessary.

Once the new Iray material is applied on your figure, well, you are ready to render. But the most perfectionist amongst you, or people who love playing with skins will enjoy the associated optimization and customization tools. Organized folder by folder, sorted in order to have the most efficient workflow, the optimization tools will allow you to adjust step by step all the key properties of skin rendering. They can also be used to simply and efficiently customize an existing Genesis 3 figure without applying the converter. The conversion step is not obligatory since the optimization tools will work on any Genesis 3 figure using PBR Metallicity Roughness Iray Material, which concerns almost all Genesis 3 figures.

These optimization tools are provided in two formats in order to adapt both to beginners and advanced or professional users. For each key properties of skin rendering, you will find either smart presets - for beginners - and a friendly user interface gathering in a few buttons and dials all you need for the aspect of skin you want to customize. As user interfaces you will find:

  • Base color Manager
  • Gloss Initializer
  • Gloss Manager
  • Translucency Manager
  • Bump Manager
  • Anatomy Transfer Tools

These advanced managers open an interface providing an immediate control over the group of surfaces you want to customize. You can choose via a menu at the top of the interface to work separately and/or successively on full skin lips and nails, skin and lips only, skin only, lips only or nails only. This way you can set up the properties on the exact surface you want without leaving the interface of the manager. Each advanced interface provides you with the required dials for the given aspect you want to adjust on skin (base color, glossy look, translucency, bump…) with a real time preview of your changes using Iray preview mode. You can adjust properties settings on any surface group you want as many times as you want until you reach the effect you expected.

No more repetitive surface selection! No more long browsing of surface properties by properties to find the ones you need! All the work is done for you.

As a bonus, a transfer tool manager is included in order to be able to copy the skin settings of any Genesis 3 Figure to any Geograft Figure in the scene, including but not limited to Anatomical Elements.

With Iray Smart Converter and Advanced Skin Managers For Genesis 3, you have two products in one. You can simply apply the Iray converter to a figure and render, or you can use the skin management tools to optimize and customize any of your existing figures whose skin is already based on any Iray Uber PBR Metallicity Roughness shader. And of course you can do both!

Whether you want to improve your Iray renders of Genesis 3 Figures, or if you simply want to make the skin customization workflow pleasant and efficient, you will find your solution here!

Additional Details

  • General Notes:
    • All these files behave as smart material presets, meaning that you have to select your figure, and then apply the script files (double click them).
    • It is better if your figure(s) are not parented to something else when applying the files, otherwise, they may not work properly.
    • The main converter gives an access to start option “Caucasian” or “African”. If you skin tone is a dark Caucasian Skin, you may have to use the “African Preset”. The difference relies on the way Translucency Color and Base Color Mixing is handled.
    • The main converter will auto-detect the version of Daz Studio. The presets applied will be different with version before or after Iray render engine update. The difference will rely on scattering management.
    • Concerning the anatomy transfer tool, there are so many possible configurations for the initial and final state in terms of maps usage of the original surfaces that sometimes, and the reason why is still being analyzed, when multiple destination surfaces are selected, the “Glossy Layered Weight” images may end up with the wrong map. This is probably due to the fact that the script tries to have the same mapped properties for the torso of the parent figure and for the geograft surfaces. Presently, the solution if you meet this issue is to use the transfer of surfaces one surface at a time, meaning that you run the script once for each destination surfaces. It solves this issue when it occurs.
  • Presets:
    • Three main presets are available, depending on what you want to do with the specular (which become the glossy and top coat) maps. The details about the presets can be found in the “Preset Info” button just bellow each preset button.
    • Once a preset is applied, you can already render. But you can also browse to the folder initializing your gloss weight and try various starting points. If you used preset 1 or 2 and your gloss is too visible, it is probably because the specular maps are initially more clear than the average of Genesis Specular maps. In this case, go for a lower gloss weight, and eventually decrease the top coat weight too.
    • The product it conceived so that, once your main preset is chosen, you can browse folder by folder, in the folder order, the customizations proposed for the skins. The folders are sorted in the most logical way for skin management, but the most important ones are the ones in “further Gloss Management” and in “Translucency Options”.
    • The partial presets you can apply to customize skin are of three different types. You will first find partial presets, applying on some properties of the skin constant values. You will also find proportional presets, applying on some properties if the skin a proportional variation of the value they currently have. And finally you will find the “managers” opening a window were you will find the sliders you need for the properties you need to adjust.
    • When a file is named using “increase” or “decrease”, this file is a proportional script, meaning that it will read the given parameter on the surface of your figure, and increase it or decrease it by a given percentage. This will allow you to optimize around your original settings.
  • Manager Scripts/Utilities:
    • The “managers script” allow to define via radio buttons, the surface groups you want to work on : “Include Nails” mean that you work on skin, nails, and lips. “Exclude Nails” will excludes nails from this list. “Nails Only” will work only on finger nails and toe nails, and “Lips Only” only on lips. You don't need to close the window to change to group you work on. For instance, you can customize “all”, and then decide to change only the lips. In this case, take the “Lips Only” radio button, and change the value for the lips surface. You can then change the “Nails Only” radio button and change the value for the nails. Really simple and efficient.
    • Take care : the initial values displayed by the sliders of the managers are the ones used by the Torso of the figure. If, for instance, you start from a skin property different for the lips and the torso, and that in the radio button box, you set up the “Lips Only” option, then the values displayed by the sliders will remain the one of the torso and will not correspond to the one currently on the lips, and this, as long as you don't change the values of the sliders. Once you change them, then the values displayed by the sliders will become the values for the lips. This is for the moment a known issue which will probably be solved within the next weeks.
    • The general work flow so far is to use the managers to modify the whole skin, plus lips and nails, then swap for the “lips only”, and modify the lips if necessary, then swap the choice for the nails only and modify the nails if necessary. You can of course close and restart the managers to work on lips only and skin only, but remember that each time you will restart a manager, the initial values displayed by the sliders when the manager starts will be the ones of the torso.
    • All the managers scripts include an “Info” Button at the top of them. Don't hesitate to click them once, you may find precious information.
    • “Further Gloss Management” manager is an extended version of “Gloss Initialization” manager. If you are familiar with the settings, you can swap the initialization manager to go directly to the one in “Further Gloss Management”.
  • Geograft Transfer:
    • The additional script allowing to copy skin settings from one Genesis 3 figure to a geograft element of the scene incorporate modified source code from the Scripting > Samples > Materials > Deep Copy sample, provided by Rob (rbtwhiz).
    • This script will allow selection as destination elements of any figures parented to Genesis 3 figure which are not other People. This means you may see outfits appearing in the possible destination list, and not only geograft elements. This script may have an effect on the viewport during the copy of the settings. Don't worry, your viewport will be back at the end of the operation.
    • Despite all my efforts, it was not possible using this script to copy skin settings from one Genesis 3 figure to another Genesis 3 figure or on itself, because otherwise the figure surfaces were not selectable any longer.
  • Special thanks and notes:
    • I'd like to thank Rob (rbtwhiz), Richard Haseltine, and Draagonstorm for the support they provided to me when I was learning to script. Without their precious help, I would have probably given up, and this product would not exist.
    • For any feedback, remarks, questions, please use the DAZ Forum thread dedicated to this product.
    • Don't forget to be creative, and have fun!

Resolved Issues

  • 2018-03-13 - The converter script “G3 V3D !Iray Main Converter.dse” was updated, in order to be compatible with the figures using Tags or using IES profiles on any of their surfaces. Previously, using the converted on such figures resulted in a script failure. The update solves this.
