The Carlton House desk with its novel design was presented as a gift to the Prince Regent (later King George IV). It looked elegant and light, but still had plenty of storage, was immediately copied and became very popular.
This model has been textured in mahogany with a bold satinwood inlay. It has a total of ten drawers of assorted sizes, four pigeon holes, and three lockable cupboards. The desk has been built with two secret compartments in which to hide papers, jewelery, or other treasures. One is a hidden drawer; the other a false bottom in the central cupboard. There are three keys smart-propped to the cupboard doors which are used as handles.
NOTE: To prevent unsightly white rings, never place a wine glass directly on the polished wood.
