Take your Genesis 8.1 textures to the next level of realism with Micro Skin Detail maps. Skin Detail 1 got a great response so here is Skin Detail Resource 2, the next 25 4k resolution micro skin patterns. They are seamlessly tiling, and each one has a pattern, normal, and roughness version, which makes 75 maps in all in uncompressed .tif format. It was made to help you work with the Genesis 8.1 PBR skin “Detail Normal Map” and “Detail Specular Roughness Mult” channels. The effect is an all-over soft, beautiful skin halo that reacts to your lighting.

These are error diffused in such a way that you can scale them up or down a lot without losing detail or getting artifacts. They can be used to paint larger detail in a bump or height map as well. Try converting them to brushes for your own use in Photoshop, Z Brush, Substance, or your favorite 2 or 3d program.

This is a Merchant Resource for creating UV textures for resale or use in HD morph sculpting. Please do not distribute more than one tiling texture per character as merchant use is unlimited on a custom UV map or morph. Please do not use them to make competing resources such as brushes for sale, and no free distribution, please. I appreciate a credit in the readme of your character if you include an unmodified tiling texture with it.

Patterns shown are at about 15-20% of full size in the map thumbnails, which are a tiny sample of the whole pattern, and the background shows the full pattern a little better. The skin look on the sphere is made with base color and translucency plus these maps only.

Use Skin Detail Resource 2 in any program that can use seamless tiling textures, and use the .duf files to apply the maps to the 8.1 skin detail channel. Keep your eye out for more skin resources coming soon!

Additional Details

  • Micro skin textures for use with Genesis 8.1 Detail Normal Map and Detail Specular Roughness Mult channels. The ultimate effect should be subtle and not compete with the bump but enhance the very surface skin detail. The default is set to 1.0 but you may want to turn them down. You can use a Detail Weight map, like you see on Victoria 8.1 to lessen the effect anywhere that it is redundant or interfering with your main skin bump. You can also use this as a merchant resource and enhance your bump maps with a stronger impression. They scale nicely so you will find lots of uses for these.
  • You can use the pattern in any 2d paint program or 3d program that uses tiling textures, I have included the grey version for that. I recommend trying them as brushes for painting skin details, making hd morph details in Z Brush, Blacksmith 3d or similar. Texture paint in Substance, PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro etc.
  • If you find it slows your computer down you can size the maps down to 2048 or 1024 and or re-save them as least compressed .jpg for improved performance. They are default sized pretty tiny, feel free to experiment with making them larger by U V tiling fewer times.
