Painted Canvas

Tools Needed

  • Photoshop 7

Step 1 - Gaussian blur

Photoshop has all the tools to turn any picture into a painting within minutes.

No special tools are required, just a few simple filters and blending modes.

Let's start with the filters. First, make the image blurry: filter > blur > Gaussian blur > 2, 4

Step 2 - paint daubs

Then apply the filter > artistic > paint daubs

with these values:

brush size=8, sharpness=7 and brush type=simple

Step 3 - duplicate layer

Make a copy of the layer by choosing layer > duplicate layer from the menu

Step 4 - paint doubts 2

Now apply the same filter > paint doubts with other settings: brush size=25.

Step 5 - blending mode

Set the blending mode of this layer to 'soft light' and the opacity at 50%.

Step 6 - canvas

To make this into a canvas > Filter > Texture > Texturizer. On both layers. The original image and the copy.

Now play around, till you are happy. I used these settings > (copy layer)

Relief 6.

On original image(bottom layer) >

Step 7 - merge

Merge the layers together…

And..you're done with you painted artwork.
