Content Installers have a wide variety of possible names. For example, you may see these installer file names:
This article lists the most widely used name conventions and what they stand for. Newer products will typically begin with the IDX of the product. The IDX number is a number unique to the product in our store. It is usually part of the URL for product's webpage.
NEW or RETAINED FILE NAME CONVENTIONS
These are file names that are either new or that are still being used.
DAZ Poser Content
This means content in Poser format. As a general rule, Poser format content can be used in Poser, DAZ Studio, and Carrara. Exceptions include files in .mc6 or Python format that only work in Poser. As a rule of thumb, DAZ Studio users should always install these files. Also any 'Powerloader' file that happens to have _dpc_ in the file name is still exclusive to DAZ Studio and doesn't need to be installed into Poser or Carrara.
This file is exclusive to DAZ Studio. It will not work in Poser or Carrara. Only DAZ Studio users need to install this file. If the 'DS' is at the very beginning of a plugin installer, then it probably refers to DAZ Studio 3. Plugin installers that begin with DS3 are specifically and only for use in DAZ Studio 3. They won't work in DS 2.x.
This file is specific to Carrara. It will not work in DAZ Studio or Poser. It is probably in .car format. Only Carrara users need to install this kind of file.
Anything that is labeled for 'Powerloader' is exclusive to DAZ Studio. Poser and Carrara users do not need to install this file.
ExP means 'Extensible Parameters' which is how morphs are handled in fourth generation figures. This is newer than the other new conventions. It means the installer provides ExP morphs. This is Poser Format Content that can be used in DAZ Studio, Poser, and Carrara.
The TRX stands for Triax and means triax weight-mapping which is supported in the new Genesis Figure. This installer provides morphs (usually in the Shaping Tab) for the Genesis Figure in DAZ Studio 4. This installer is only usable in Studio 4.
This installer provides metadata, information used in Studio 4 so that content can show up in the 'Smart Content' (MyStuff) Tab. This installer is only usable in Studio 4.
OLDER FILE NAME CONVENTIONS
This installer is a texture add-on, usually a Poser format product. It is in Poser format and thus can be used in DAZ Studio and Carrara also. There are specific exceptions that should be noted on the product page.
The PS means Poser. It can mean either exclusive to Poser or simply in Poser Format. It is for use in Poser and is probably usable in DAZ Studio.
This stands for 'accessory.' It is an add-on product such as clothing or armor. It may also include textures. It is in Poser format and thus can be used in DAZ Studio and Carrara also.
This stands for 'animal.' This product install an animal figure. It is in Poser format and thus can be used in DAZ Studio and Carrara also.
This stands for bundle. Formerly, bundle products had their own names and did not simply refer to the original component installers.
This stands for 'character.' It means a character which is a figure such as a cartoon figure. It is in Poser format and thus can be used in DAZ Studio and Carrara also.
This stands for 'motion.' This installer is for a pose preset or animation preset. It is in Poser format and thus can be used in DAZ Studio and Carrara also.
This stands for 'morph.' This installer installs a morph or morph add-on. It is in Poser format and thus can be used in DAZ Studio and Carrara also.
This stands for 'people.' The installers for figures like Victoria 3, The Freak (3rd gen), and originally Victoria 4 used 'pe' in the name of the installer. It is in Poser format and thus can be used in DAZ Studio and Carrara also.
This stands for an add-on intended for use in Bryce. It will only work in Bryce. It will not work in Carrara, Poser, or DAZ Studio. You could try to bring it through the new Bryce 7 bridge into DAZ Studio.
This stands for 'application.' It can install a stand-alone application or it can install a plugin for use in DAZ Studio, Poser, or Carrara.
This stands for 'shader.' This is typically a shader add-on for use in Carrara.
This is a bryce object file. This installer provides content for use in Bryce. It will not work in another application.
This is a material preset for use in Bryce. It will not work in another application.
